SEM(Search Engine Marketing) is an equally famous term as SEO(Search Engine Optimization). Both of these comes under the umbrella of Digital Marketing.

Well, the thing which differentiates amongst them is the kind of approach, SEO is an organic approach while SEM is an inorganic approach.

Now the question comes what is meant by the Organic & Inorganic approach?

The Organic approach is where not a single penny is been invested in marketing or running any campaign or any activity that could bring clients or customers to us online. This includes blog posts, case studies, guest posts, unpaid tweets, and Facebook updates.

While Inorganic approach is a kind where paid campaigns are run to market ourselves to the customer pool, which can certainly be done by paying any or various digital platforms to show your ad to the customers. Sponsered Ads, Paid campaigns, etc. comes under it.

Search engine marketing is the practice of marketing a business using paid advertisements that appear on search engine results pages (or SERPs). Advertisers bid on keywords that users of services such as Google and Bing might enter when looking for certain products or services, which gives the advertiser the opportunity for their ads to appear alongside results for those search queries.

Search engine marketing’s greatest strength is that it offers advertisers the opportunity to put their ads in front of motivated customers who are ready to buy at the precise moment they’re ready to make a purchase.

How can SEM benefit us?

While SEO allows you to optimize your website for a greater chance in appearing higher in search results, and online advertising allows you to send promotional content to the target audience of your choosing, SEM combines both benefits as your content is both optimized for higher search rankings and is placed primarily in front of audiences who are most likely to convert when they click on your ads.
